Amy O'Brien - Teacher
“I was exposed to yoga and meditation from a very young age because both my mother and grandmother had home practices. When I was in college at UNR I was able to take a yoga class with Barry Peterson and it wasn't until that semester that I began to truly see the benefits of the mind-body connection.
For anyone who does the practice and realizes the very real benefits of self-regulation, impulse control, and increased awareness it becomes obvious that yoga should be available to everyone - especially to kids and even more importantly it should be made available to kids that are struggling, kids that can't afford it, kids with trauma. I've always considered my best life to be one of public service and its an honor to be involved with this project.
I'm currently taking classes towards a Masters in Social Work at UNR. I'm an insatiable reader and some books I've recently digested include The Body Keeps the Score, Eastern Body Western Mind, and The New Jim Crow. To pay the bills I work a few days a week in a restaurant serving the hungry people of Midtown Reno.”
My Mantra: I am patient. I am present. I have trust in the Universe.
