Urban Lotus Project
Jamie O'Shea - ULP Teacher
I can recall the first yoga class I ever attended. I was uneasy on my feet, unaware of breath connection, no understanding of the postures and completely clueless about the monkey mind. What I do remember most was at the end of the class, how incredible I felt. My body was stretched and flexed in ways that I had no idea were possible to do on my own. I thought only a stretching device would be able to accomplish such a phenomenal feeling. I was hooked, line and sinker on the feeling. I had been looking for this my entire life.
It is my intention and offering to give the gift of home, oneness, and connection to our youth. I am thrilled to spend time with children engaging them in passions that light them up. I believe learning to still the mind, connect to your body and feel gratitude are lifelong qualities that can be of benefit at the youngest of ages. I think ULP is the best organization in town to be able to offer kids this benefit.
I substitute teach with Washoe County School District to spend some of my time. I travel as much as possible to visit family or just go to new places! One of my newest luxuries is visiting my children at their OWN place! It is so lovely to be moving into a new space with them as young adults. Being with them is definitely one of my favorite ways to spend time. Definitely enjoy time spent on the mat doing asana.
My Mantra: Treat people the way you would like to be treated. To always keep that in mind when dealing with anybody.
